Small Bale Haylage Packer

Packaging system that turns large bale round / square bale haylage into weighed manageable 20 kg airtight packs at a rate of approx. 60/70 packs per hour with only two operatives.

Bale Breaking System

Shown in the thumbnails is the bale breaking system which comprises of a spiked conveyor to pick up the large bale haylage with a special doffing unit to thin the material ready for weighing and feeding. The walking floor system which typically holds up to four large square bales feeds the large bales at a constant rate up to the spiked bale breaking conveyor. The large baled haylage is placed on the walking floor system and the wrapping and twine removed and the machine automatically feeds the material through the system. Four large bales would generally be sufficient for one hour of running.

Round Bales

For round bales we would usually not use the walking floor system but would add a round bale haylage unrolling system and small feed conveyor before the spiked conveyor. The bale unrolling system is only suitable to unroll one bale at a time and would require a new bale adding at intervals of approx. 10 to 15 min.

Weighing System

To ensure consistency of the finished product the material is fed onto a weigh conveyor that will weigh the haylage material before the packing process. The weighing conveyor generally would be set to produce a finished pack weigh of 20 kg, The bale weight when packing dry material would be reduced accordingly to suit the dry material volume. the system would be capable of packing other materials i.e. Straw, Hay, shavings etc. the bale weight would be adjusted accordingly to possibly 10 / 15 kg's.

Packing System

The packaging system comprises of a hydraulic bagging press with a four ram system to compress the loose haylage into the small compressed packs. The total tonnage used is approx. 15 tons to ensure that all the air has been expelled from the material being packed. The system has a total compression ratio of approx. 20:1. There is no requirement for the finished pack to have a vacum pump to remove any air as the action of the compression of the machine removes enough of the air to prevent the material going off.

The Finished product

The finished product is packed into a plastic bag which has been sealed with a special double seal and a built in valve system to allow air to be released from the pack but not allow air to re-enter the bag. This ensures that the haylage material inside the bag is of a high standard and ensures a prolonged shelf life.

The finished 20kg pack is compact with a general size of 600 x 400 x 220 mm which lends itself to maximise storage, Transport and handling.

With over 15 systems currently installed through the UK and Europe the system has been in the field for over three years and the process is tried and tested and has been producing top quality small bale haylage over this period.
